Sainsbury's gets convenient security
Following a range of acquisitions, Terry Poole head of profit protection was tasked with reviewing the inherited security provision across the Sainsbury's Locals estate and implementing a strategy that would make the security more cohesive. Following a security review, it was decided that a complete revamp was needed to bring all the stores to the same level. Working alongside commercial and retail security provider, Blue Rock Security Solutions and IP security vendor, Initsys a new system has been developed that suits Sainsbury's Locals specific requirements. Each store now has an Initsys Install and Forget (IAF) network video recorder, which has built-in Initsys duplex detection, used where ultra reliable detection of activity in protected areas is required and up to 19 IP Panasonic CCTV cameras. Poole said: "We were looking to install a new security system across the Sainsbury's Locals estate that didn't alienate our staff. It needed to be easy to use and require minimal onsite training. Our remit was to come up with a security system that our store managers could be trained on in 15 minutes." In addition to the rollout of the new security system across the Sainsbury's Locals estate, a trial has been proving successful in one of the company's test-stores. A fully interactive IP system has been installed that allows for all recorded material to be stored at off-site storage provided by Blue Rock. The network polls the system every 45 seconds, not only ensuring that the off-site storage has up-to-the-minute saved material, but that the provider is alerted of any technical problems long before the staff on-site are aware of them. "As we learn more about the possibilities of the IP system at the test store we are able to tailor the system to meet our requirements as they develop," said Poole. Contact Reproduced from Retail
