Electronics retailer introduces 360-degree spin

Swiss organisation to roll out dynamic imagery online to enhance its rich media experience and improve its e-commerce customersÂ’ experience

Distrelec has appointed imagery and software specialist SpinMe to set up an in-house studio in its Switzerland facility.

SpinMe will install its hardware and software, in addition to providing extensive training to staff in studio of the retailer, which is one of the largest business-to-business (B2B) electronics retailers in Europe, with a catalogue of over 250,000 products.

“Our customers tend to be informed professionals – relevant rich media, like good pictures with 360-degree views, is something they have come to expect from a modern webshop,” said Jan Kroeni, design and video specialist at Distrelec.

“We chose SpinMe because its software is both customisable and powerful, so our photography workflow will be very efficient.”

The company distributes products from over 1,000 manufacturers worldwide, including IT components, accessories, computers and automation devices.

Engaging every type of customer

“Although Distrelec’s customers are mainly B2B, that doesn’t mean that the online experience needs to be boring,” said David Brint, managing director at SpinMe. “Business people are still consumers, and will respond well to an exciting and engaging website with high quality imagery.”

Distrelec is currently in the process of re-launching its international online shop; the Austrian site has already gone live and the Swiss and Italian sites will follow shortly.

The 360-degree spin technology enables a viewer to take control of an image and see a product from many different angles. SpinMe added that research shows that products featuring the technique see higher conversion and reduced returns rates.
