Tyco Electronics Elo Touchsystems announces order for 1519L touch monitors from UK supermarket giant

Tyco Electronics Elo Touchsystems announces order for 1519L touch monitors from UK supermarket giant

Elo TouchSystems, a Tyco Electronics business, has announced that Tesco has selected Elo widescreen touch monitors for use in its Superstores, Extra stores and petrol stations in the UK and Ireland.

The manufacturer said the initial order covers units to be supplied over the remainder of 2010 and will be implemented into Tesco’s existing point-of-sale (PoS) checkouts using their existing PoS software plus an on-screen touch keypad.

Meeting the business case

James McNulty, Tesco’s head of group IT procurement, commented: “The widescreen format of the touch monitors enables Tesco to eliminate the numeric keypad from its existing PoS equipment, and gives many business benefits. The widescreen unit has the same screen area as traditional 15-inch units but is lower in height, which improves the interaction between our staff and customers.”

Chris White, Elo TouchSystems UK and Ireland regional manager, added: “We are delighted that Tesco has selected our 1519L widescreen touch monitor following extensive trials and testing. The 1519L’s IntelliTouch surface acoustic wave touchscreen is pure-glass, with no films or coatings that gives unsurpassed brightness and durability plus stable, no drift calibration.”
