Storewide roll out of new Blade till systems will deliver improved store process efficiencies

Matalan, the value fashion and homewares retailer, has signed a deal with technology provider, DigiPoS Store Solutions, to implement its Dynamic Blade electronic point-of-sale (EPoS) solution across its 200-plus UK stores. The entire solution roll out is planned to take 24 months.

Matalan appointed DigiPoS in September 2010, and the Dynamic Blade solution went live in the retailer’s Huddersfield store one month later. Matalan’s latest store opened in High Wycombe on 18 November, and also incorporates the Dynamic Blade EPoS solution.

Peter Trainer, IT and logistics director at Matalan Retail, said: “We have ambitious growth plans for the next few years and need the technology to support us in our endeavours.

Cost-effective and responsive

“DigiPoS’ Dynamic Blade solution requires low-level maintenance, and the tills can be replaced quickly and seamlessly. This means they are rarely down, and therefore there is little impact on the customer. The team at DigiPoS has also been both supportive and collaborative.”

DigiPoS’ Dynamic Blade is designed specifically for the retail sector. The system’s motherboard and hard drive are built directly into the touchscreen, enabling easily upgrades or repairs, to reduce unnecessary retail downtime.

The EPoS deal follows a number of other store-focused technology deals for the retailer. In November 2010, it unveiled kiosks from Protouch to extend its multichannel format instore. It also chose Quantum Retail’s Q software to optimise store-level replenishment activities in August 2010. And in October it also upgraded its warehouse management with Manhattan Associates’ systems for managing stock moving from its distribution centres to its stores.
