Delivery management system proves its worth for time-sensitive florist’s sector

Three online florists, including M&S Flowers, have recently gone live with MetaPack’s delivery management system.

Christopher Thompson of eFlorist, a new company to this industry, welcomed the multi-carrier platform. “MetaPack allowed us to set up our business quicker and more efficiently then we had hoped when in the project development phase of our business plan,” he said. “With the broad spectrum of systems and couriers it integrates into, orders coming from our websites, to fulfilment, and out to delivery systems is amazingly simple and fluid. I doubt that without MetaPack involved we would have been able to meet our go-live date.”

Minimising integration requirements

The flower companies are able to send feeds to their various fulfillers on a regular basis indicating the orders to be made up. The online florist has already set the rules for the carrier allocation and so, when the call is made to MetaPack by the fulfiller, the most appropriate carrier is automatically selected and label printed. These labels have been standardised to fit the requirements of every UK carrier, meaning that the essential premium delivery services can be accessed across carriers without further systems integration or capital outlay, which is especially crucial during peak holiday periods and to allow for contingency fall backs.

Owing to the packaging needs of florists, these labels have been further specialised to fit on the back of gift cards attached to the bouquets saving on the need for unsightly large stickers on the attractive wrapping.

Metapack added that the increased speed and ease with which the delivery process now happens is proving invaluable to this perishable industry.
