Hosted e-procurement software unlocks operational and management savings for UK entertainment retailer

UK entertainment retail specialist HMV Group is planning significant cost savings using Wax Digital’s web3 hosted e-sourcing platform and consultancy services.

Wax Digital web3 replaces incumbent Ariba Sourcing for its ease of use, cost effectiveness and support from the e-procurement provider’s specialist e-sourcing team.

Challenged by reduced consumer spending and pressure from the music downloads market, sourcing and purchasing technology is currently a critical investment for HMV.

Standardisation using best practice

“We intend to make e-auctions accessible and standard practice for all of our buyers,” said Paul Barker, HMV procurement manager. “We chose Wax Digital for its highly intuitive platform and local sourcing expertise. It’s helping us increase sourcing process efficiency so that we can put the purchasing team’s time to best use.”

HMV will use web3 across many spend categories covering both direct and in-direct goods starting with print and stationery, a significant cost area for the company.

Through Wax Digital’s recommendation HMV is simultaneously replacing Ariba Spend Analysis with DU360, to ensure that it has a clear understanding of the areas where sourcing will drive most value.

“HMV is a business that has had to turn on its heel to ride out market conditions,” said Daniel Ball, director, Wax Digital. “Its forward thinking attitude to sourcing and managing spend is an important step in doing what many retailers must – minimising operational costs while optimising resale margins.”
