Restaurant chain targets application at guests who want pay using their mobile phone, bringing PayPal to the High Street for the first time

Restaurant chain targets application at guests who want pay using their mobile phone, bringing PayPal to the High Street for the first time

Today PizzaExpress launches a market first in a new iPhone application that, among other things, gives customers the option to pay their bill automatically via their smartphone.

The new app is designed for diners with limited time, whether they are late for a meeting, the theatre or the train, or eating out with restless kids. PizzaExpress’ new payment option is set to take the stress out of waiting to pay the bill, allowing customers to pay and leave the restaurant when they want to.

Adding to dining experience

While the new app is designed not take anything away from the PizzaExpress customer experience or service; its creators said it will make a tangible difference to the PizzaExpress dining experience and tackles the real issue of waiting to pay the bill in a restaurant. The app marks a sea change in retail payment methods in the retail industry; while bringing PayPal online payments to the UK high street for the first time.

The new PizzaExpress iPhone app is free to download from the Apple app store and can be used in its 370 restaurants across the UK.

Part of wider mobile drive

The launch will be supported by a company-wide roll out of free WiFi via The Cloud and new electronic point-of-sale (EPoS) facilities that will enable a seamless transition to the new payment system for customers.

With the help of PayPal, the app allows PizzaExpress to satisfy growing customer demand for greater personalisation and control of their dining experience.

The new app also enables customers to find and book a restaurant table, view menus, and store special offer codes and receipts, all via a touch of their iPhone.
