Travel accommodation site generates conversion uplift by testing live visitor reactions to page content and layout

Newly launched holiday and short-term rentals website, WhereToSleep, has selected Maxymiser to implement a programme of multivariate testing (MVT) on its website.

Launched in April this year, WhereToSleep will use Maxymiser’s conversion management suite to determine which design, content and layout combinations have the biggest impact on conversion rates, replacing guesswork and subjective decision-making with web data feedback from live visitors.

Real customer feedback

WhereToSleep, part of the W3 group that also owns VivaStreet and EasyRoomMate, aims to connect hosts with travellers from around the world who are looking for an affordable alternative to hotel accommodation. In order to grow and build its presence within the travel sector, WhereToSleep is using Maxymiser to implement a range of tests across the home page, listings and bookings pages of its website. This will provide data-driven evidence of how well the website is performing and enables the company to identify the areas of the site that need improving based on the responses and behaviour of real customers.

Dan Daly, WhereToSleep marketing director, commented: “As a start-up online business we want to create a great first impression with customers and we want to provide them with the very best user experience. At the moment we have a huge amount of traffic coming into the site, but very little understanding of where people are dropping out of the booking process.

“Using MaxTEST, we are able to serve multiple variants of content and structure simultaneously to site visitors, while monitoring and measuring the impact on conversion rates and revenue. The reports and dashboards provide a deeper level of insight to determine the best design and site content, while enabling us to develop a strategic roadmap for our ongoing website changes.”

Expert knowledge transferred

Daly said: “Maxymiser was chosen as our conversion management partner because of the knowledge and experience of its consultants, combined with its first class technology, which delivers a quick, easy and secure implementation without requiring the intervention of IT staff, all at a low total cost of ownership. Maxymiser is already being used to great effect by two of our sister brands VivaStreet and EasyRoomMate, which means that their consultants have a really in-depth understanding of our business, making them the ideal fit for us.

“Making changes to content, functions and user experience is very risky – with few reliable reference points to determine what impact they will have on our visitors and conversion rates. We understand that the only real way to ensure success and capture real customer feedback is through live testing with actual website visitors, and with the expertise, skills and technology that Maymiser provides, we are able to do just that,” Daly concluded.
