Deal with newly renamed Hypercom aims to transform customer car rental payment experience

Enterprise Rent-A-Car has partnered with Spire Payments, the payment terminal provider and the new name for Hypercom in the UK and Spain, for a flexible, secure and convenient mobile payments system.

The arrangement follows the global care rental search for a new payment system that could provide secure, Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliant acceptance of card payments away from the office.

Roll out of mobile terminals

Spire Payments reported that it had recently deployed its M4230 PCI accredited, chip & PIN, GPRS-connected mobile card payment terminal to 350 Enterprise office locations across the UK.

The terminal has also been customised to so Enterprise can enter specific reference details when completing a transaction, integrating with Enterprise’s existing internal processes.

At the same time, and in conjunction with Spire, UK payment processor TS3 Services has developed a system that also enables Enterprise to process refunds and secondary additional transactions for customers wanting to extend their car rentals. The system uses payment tokenisation authentication, eliminating the need for the company to hold sensitive card data. TS3 have also tailored its system to include and display Enterprise specific fields within their online tool, again, assisting in various back-end processes.

Putting the customer first

Parthi Cumarasamy, Enterprise Rent-A-Car IT director for European infrastructure, praised the engagement with Spire Payments and TS3, which he said delivered “a truly seamless payment service where security and privacy of customer information is foremost”.

Cumarasamy added: “We believe that the flexibility of the solution provides Enterprise Rent-A-Car with a distinct advantage over many of our competitors.”

Dave Millener, managing director of Spire Payments UK commented that the new Enterprise payment systems would transform the way that payments are made in the car rental industry.

“Spire’s M4230 mobile handheld terminal authorises the payment instantly, so customers can be confident that their payments are processed quickly and securely at a location that is convenient for them,” Millener said. “In addition to this, our in-house helpdesk and next day swap-out service will ensure Enterprise and its customers experience a first class customer service by being on hand to deal with follow-up queries quickly and efficiently.”
