Additional warehousing systems extend High Street retailer’s storage capacity

Dürkopp Fördertechnik, handling and sortation systems provider for both flat goods and hanging garments, has added a second extension to the system it installed for Aurora Fashions.

Aurora is the name behind the famous international fashion brands of Karen Millen, Coast, Warehouse and Oasis. The business has a 55,000 square-foot, four-level, central distribution centre at Stanton Harcourt near Oxford, which can store around 1.5 million garments, both flat and hanging.

Enhancing warehouse efficiency

The whole contract, which has a total value of nearly €3 million (£2.6m), includes a two-tier hanging mezzanine system and a two-tier hanging garment racking structure. It is currently handling up to 100,000 flat and hanging garments a day.

On arrival, goods are scanned, automatically labelled and then moved on Dürkopp’s trolleyless system, which is linked to “D-Store” – its bespoke warehouse management product. D-Store, which also communicates with the Aurora’s own software system, picks and sorts the orders received daily from some 1,400 stores across the UK, Ireland and continental Europe.

Annette Sommer, Dürkopp Fördertechnik’s general manager in the UK, said: “I am delighted that we were once again selected to add more capacity to Aurora Fashions’ warehousing system. It is also further proof of our expertise in this sector that our sortation systems are chosen to handle some of the world’s top fashion brands.”
