Visa Europe will host its first ever European Security Summit on 5 October 2011 in Frankfurt, Germany.

Bringing together senior decision makers from Visa’s member banks as well as retailers, technology vendors, law enforcers, regulators and government officials from across Europe, the Summit will address the trust and security implications in the new world of digital and mobile payments.

The summit will explore changes in payments as mobile and digital technologies transform the way in which consumers interact and transact. It will examine the risks that these new opportunities present and highlight how Visa Europe is leading the industry in order to ensure that payments remain flexible and secure. The conference will offer insight into maintaining the trust of consumers, the role of security in the development of new products and balancing risk and opportunity.

The conference will be hosted by Valerie Dias, Visa Europe’s chief risk officer, and present expert viewpoints from Visa Europe’s security and technology executives and guest speakers including Gerard Hartsink, chairman of the European Payments Council; Stuart Miles, founder and chief executive of Pocket Lint; and Dave O’Reilly, from the Centre for Cybercrime Investigation, University College Dublin.

Valerie Dias, Visa Europe’s chief risk officer, said: “This is an exciting time for Visa Europe as we move towards payment convergence, yet we are sensitive to the challenges that the new world of payments presents. Visa has shaped every major change in payments over the past 50 years. This conference will give insight to how we intend to lead the way forward in the next 50 years."

“It is timely that we host this Summit to explore how we can deploy the same vigilance to ensure the security of payments for contactless and mobile technologies as we developed for Chip and PIN and online payments through Verified by Visa.

“This Summit gives decision makers from across Europe a unique opportunity to share experiences of how the new world of payments is impacting their businesses and customers – and how Visa Europe is developing products and solutions to help them respond to these new opportunities.”
