Ocado deal updates payment security

By Retail Technology | Friday April 19 2013

Online grocery retailer uses DataCash tokenisation technology to provide improved customer experience and power secure online payments

Ocado has signed a deal to secure its customer payments with MasterCard company DataCash. The online payment processor’s tokenisation technology will enable the online grocer to improve the customer experience.

As part of the new contract Ocado has integrated the DataCash Secure Hosted Card Capture system, giving its customers the ability to safely and securely pay for their orders using any brand of credit and debit cards, while reducing the burden of PCI compliance on Ocado.

The DataCash tokenisation technology produces a unique ‘token’ for each customer’s card details, ensuring that the customer’s full card details are not visible to or stored with Ocado, enabling customers to securely make repeat payments, without return customers having to input their full card details each and every time.

Maintaining brand experience

DataCash has been brought in alongside existing providers to help maintain a high-quality brand experience for Ocado customers by giving the e-retailer assurance that increased volumes of customers will be dealt with efficiently and securely. As part of the offering, Ocado will continue to use 3-D Secure, the online authentication system for card payments developed by MasterCard to further help mitigate fraud.

“At Ocado, we pride ourselves on the service that we deliver to our customers at every step of the ordering process, from the selection of the products, to payment and delivery. With this in mind, we sought a best-in-class solution that would simplify and secure payments. DataCash’s implementation of its technology was second to none and its integration with our services was seamless,” stated Richard Exact from Ocado.
