By Retail Technology | Friday September 27 2013

Newly built hotel focusing on modern and environmentally friendly services includes in-room 'smartphone' touchscreen application capabilities for guests

The new Hotel La Tour in Birmingham recently revealed it has worked with Alcatel-Lucent and Solution Builders (SBL) to implement an innovative end-to-end network infrastructure.

The infrastructure enables the hotel to offer guests a modern and environmentally friendly experience, including advanced services available in each room via the smartphone features of Alcatel-Lucent's My IC Phone.

Enterprise IT powers business services

The telecommunications supplier has deployed its web-services My IC Phone to provide the hotel's business guests with in-room smartphone application-like capabilities through its integrated touchscreen interface. Along with exceptional audio quality, guests will have easy access to helpful hotel information such as directories, applications such as weather updates and an energy saving function to control room lighting.

Through the network infrastructure, Hotel La Tour can also offer interactive TV and wireless internet in every room, along with a paperless check-in and check-out ‘kiosk’ service, and other innovative features such as staff using the iTouch for restaurant orders.

Providing superior guest experiences

SBL is a Premium Partner of Alcatel-Lucent in the hospitality sector, and was chosen for the roll out because of its expertise in this market alongside the high level of support it provides post-installation, which was an important factor for Hotel La Tour, reflecting company policy for excellent customer care.

Hotel La Tour is currently developing plans to expand its portfolio and have acquired land to build a further hotel.  Julie King, Hotel La Tour IT director, said: “We are a new city hotel, and implementing exciting new technology is a big focus for us to continually improve the customer experience.

"Acquiring Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise's communication technology means we can continue to take a 'no cutting corners' approach to providing the best service to our guests."
