Fretwell-Downing unveils new development in foodservice touchscreen software

Catering software specialist, Fretwell-Downing Hospitality (FDH) has launched a new development to its foodservice touchscreen self-ordering software, Saffron Xpress.

Saffron Xpress is a custom-designed system that enables customers to order and pay for food, either in advance via a web screen from their PC, laptop or mobile; or via a touchscreen kiosk located in the café or food outlet without having to queue at a till. The software helps restaurants and quick service outlets cut queuing times and improve profit margins, as well as providing a valuable customer communication route, the company saod.

The latest version of the software will now have the optional capability of providing customers with a breakdown of the nutritional content of the food they have just ordered. The nutritional breakdown can be displayed as a series of traffic lights with red, amber and green symbols denoting whether nutrients such as carbohydrate, saturated fat and salt are present in high, medium or low quantities.

One step ahead of standards

The developments are in line with moves made by many eateries to make nutritional information available to customers, and the Food Standards Agency’s intentions to introduce a voluntary calorie-labelling scheme into the hospitality sector.

Nigel Adams, FDH’s sales executive, commented: “The additional functionality is optional but can be a valuable way of conveying menu nutritional information to customers when they place an order.

“At the same time hospitality businesses can improve the customer experience by speeding up service time through the utilisation of touch screen technology, in a similar way that other sectors such as supermarkets and airline check-ins are now operating self-service kiosks.”

Saffron Xpress will be demonstrated on the Fretwell-Downing Hospitality stand (Q47) at Caffé Culture, the upcoming trade exhibition exclusively catering for Europe's cafè bar market being held from 23 to 25 June at Olympia in London.
