US electronics retailing giant announces its presence in the UK with the launch of a newly upgraded website

After announcing its joint venture with the UK High Street’s Carphone Warehouse last May, Best Buy earlier this week launched a newly upgraded UK website.

The new UK website is not yet transactional, featuring no product as yet, but a blog posting this week about the soft launch gave Paul Antoniadis, Best Buy UK chief executive a chance to set out the largest global electronics retailer’s UK stall.

“I feel strongly that there's a real opportunity for us to offer something really fresh, exciting and new to electronics consumers in the UK,” wrote Antoniadis. “At the moment our team is busy getting ready to launch our business in Spring 2010, and this website is the first stage in that process.”

Technology and customer expertise

He said the company’s aim was to bring “the latest and greatest technology, at the best value through a shopping experience centred on delivering great service by our enthusiastic Best Buy colleagues – before, during and after your purchase”.

The company has been recruiting 8,000 staff for its arrival in the UK market this year, which will kick off in Spring 2010 with store openings planned for Westfield’s Merry Hill shopping centre in the West Midlands, Thurrock and Southampton.

The stores will showcase the latest technology, including visual and audio equipment, computing technology, entertainment devices, mobiles, appliances, music, movies and games.
