Latest point-of-sale (PoS) software upgrade offers compatibility with enhancing add-on services, according to retail provider

Torex has today launched version 9 of its flagship Torex Retail PoS solution. It said the new release demonstrates the company’s ongoing commitment to developing the platform and incorporates a number of retail focus group-led improvements designed to help retailers realise greater return on their investment.

The new Torex Retail PoS 9 system is targeting plug-and-play integration with the business analysis, loss prevention, loyalty and mobile PoS solutions it currently offers, as well as a number of complementary services that it said supports the platform.

Third-party application integration

Features that can now be added include mobile phone top-up from ePay, cross channel e-gifting from Givex, dynamic currency conversion and tax-free trading, while Torex added that a number of innovative new applications from third-party vendors are also currently in development. By acting as a single platform from which retailers can incorporate these extra features, the vendor is packaging Torex Retail POS 9 offers as a simple, streamlined and cost-effective way for new and existing users to expand the scope of their in-store technology.

Torex Retail POS 9 also provides an integral card payments system to enable retailers to reduce transaction times and to lower card processing costs. This system also delivers enhanced card payment protection by incorporating the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Payment Application Data Security Standard (PA-DSS) compliant security measures built in to previous versions.

Through its proprietary card payment system integration layer, “EFT LINK”, Retail PoS also provides integration with over 40 international, specialist card payment and processing services, according to the provider. This, it said, would allow retailers to exploit the latest innovations in card number tokenisation, significantly reducing the cost and the burden of PCI compliance for individual stores within a retailer’s estate.

Payment and international capability enhancements

With live installations of Torex Retail PoS 9 now active in over 25 countries across the world, Torex also said the latest version has been enhanced with additional international capabilities, making it easy for retailers with a presence in a number of countries to adapt their system to fit local currency, taxation and legislative guidelines.

Torex is also in the process of extending the multichannel capabilities of the Torex Retail PoS platform, to help retailers integrate their e-commerce and store operations. As well as the cross-channel features offered by integration with additional modules such as Torex Loyalty, further enhancements scheduled for the coming year will include the ability to validate refunds of goods purchased online, in-store, and wider support for ‘click and collect’ services that bridge the two channels.

Doug Hargrove, Torex chief marketing officer, commented that this release was the next step in the product roadmap for Torex Retail PoS. “We have committed over 40 man years of development time to making sure that Torex Retail PoS 9 offers the most comprehensive range of features to our customers,” he said. “The addition of plug-and-play compatibility with dozens of applications developed by external software vendors ensures that the platform will continue to support the latest and most innovative retail services and applications.”
