Remote systems access control gives luxury brand efficient store polling solution

Remote systems access control gives luxury brand efficient store polling solution

Luxury beauty brand Molton Brown has deployed VNC Enterprise Edition throughout its global retail network.

With a portfolio of 50 stores in the UK and hundreds of stockists across 70 countries, VNC Enterprise Edition gives the UK head office fast and secure access to sales figures from all of its retail systems around the world with no disruption to staff or customers.

Although a global brand, 85% of Molton Brown’s manufacturing facilities, as well as its corporate headquarters, are based in the UK. IT support is outsourced but the internal IT team still need to collate confidential sales data in-house.

“We chose VNC Enterprise Edition after evaluating a number of VNC remote access solutions,” said Tanay Taank, IT vice president at Molton Brown. “The speed and simplicity of establishing a session as well as the unobtrusive nature of RealVNC’s solution were key factors. Now our IT technicians can access retail systems even outside of trading hours or when staff are busy with customers. As much of this data is confidential it is important that all sessions are authenticated and strongly-encrypted to ensure the secure transfer of data.”

Simple solution to global challenge

With VNC Enterprise Edition now installed on every Molton Brown point of sale and back-office PC system across the globe, the UK-based IT team has round-the-clock access to global sales figures by polling the information from head office. All this can be done without having to rely on the retailer to send the sales figures to them manually.

VNC Enterprise Edition allows one computer to take control of another computer from anywhere in the world, with cross-platform support for operating systems, including Windows, Mac and UNIX. VNC Enterprise Edition comprises a small VNC Server application on the machine to be controlled and a VNC Viewer component on the controlling machine. With no agents or centralised servers required the vendor, RealVNC, said VNC Enterprise Edition enables trouble-free installation and use.
