Cancer Research UK implements new online event fundraising SaaS to boost event participation

Cancer Research UK recently revealed that it is using Convio TeamRaiser to increase participation and fundraising in its overnight fundraising festival, Relay For Life.

TeamRaiser, now available to UK charities for the first time, will provide the event series with a fully branded online platform that allows registration, online donations, real-time fundraising reporting, event management, email capability and social media integration to maintain engagement with participants all in one easy-to-use package.

There is an array of features to help Cancer Research UK maximise participant fundraising for Relay For Life, including step-by-step prompts to help team captains and event participants raise money, involve others and share what they're doing with other volunteers.

Key branding opportunities

Event, team and personal fundraising pages are all fully branded with the Relay For Life identity and the system also empowers participants to send and track emails to their contacts, share pictures and messages via social networks and track their progress against team and individual targets.

"Investment in Convio TeamRaiser is central to our ambitions for growing Relay For Life," said Simon O'Leary, head of volunteer fundraising at Cancer Research UK. "TeamRaiser allows us to provide a better experience to members of the public who are registering for our Relay For Life events and crucially provides more integrated fundraising capability that we can use to drive incremental income growth.

"We are very proud to be the first organisation in the UK to be using TeamRaiser and look forward to working with Convio in the future to further develop our on line processes for Relay For Life."

Strong reporting features

TeamRaiser also provides Cancer Research UK with a real-time picture of how all Relay For Life events are doing day by day, better access to donor data and management of the complex accounting and logistical challenges of an event spanning a twelve-month period. Volunteer event coordinators know how team captains are progressing against targets and team captains can see how their team members are doing - providing practical support directly via TeamRaiser.

The fundraising, marketing and customer relationship management (CRM) provider already works with the American Cancer Society, inspired to develop Relay For Life in the 1980s. American Cancer Society has been using TeamRaiser nationally since 2005, during which time it has increased online revenue by 48%. And, as TeamRaiser is an entirely cloud-based service, its provider said this also prevents the need for charities to invest in any additional IT or server support.
