European online pet store implements new payment system to increase regional sales and support rapid international growth

Zooplus, a leading European online retailer for pet products, has become the latest merchant to switch its online payment processing to global payment company Adyen.

Increasing sales and continued expansion across Europe has led to very high growth rates for zooplus, making it a necessity to implement a payment system that could be hosted from a single platform across different countries.

Founded in 1999, zooplus stocks a wide range of over 8,000 products from dog food to cat trees to hamster wheels, to offer a one-stop online shop for all pet owners.

Scaling payment functionality for growth

By implementing the new payment system, it has simplified the purchasing, enabling shoppers to place an order and carry out a payment transaction with just a single click. The system’s financial reporting and advanced business intelligence functionality also provides zooplus with more insight into customer behaviour on its online stores.

“Our mission at zooplus is to ensure our customers and their pets are happy,” explained Dr. Mischa Ritter, zooplus chief digital officer. “In 2013, zooplus expects to deliver more than 10 million parcels to its customers via shipping partners in over 20 different countries – from Finland to Italy, and from Spain to Slovakia. We needed a global payments partner like Adyen with a deep knowledge of our payments landscape to support our continued growth plans.”

The Adyen payment system is hosted, mitigating the burden of regulatory compliancy on zooplus. It also provides a suite of e-commerce anti fraud, conversion analytics and automated refund/chargeback services.
