By Retail Technology | Thursday October 17 2013

Europe’s latest pet accessory retailer to debut new online marketplace technology in the UK in order to increase product range without inventory

A new marketplace technology has dramatically boosted online profits and product range for French online retailer Fnac.com, while MedicAnimal.com will become its first UK-based retail user.

Launched yesterday in the UK, Mirakl allows retailers to host transactions between buyers and sellers of products to increased their product range without adding inventory and introducing a profitable new sales channel.

MedicAnimal.com, the largest European online retailer of pet accessories and veterinary supplies, will expand its product range by including a large number of additional sellers, while at the same time guaranteeing a secure and high-quality customer experience in keeping with the rest of the site.

Serving online seller community

“This new partnership will add an extra service to MedicAnimal.com and allow us to better serve our community of online sellers, taking our services for pet owners to the next level,” said Ivan Retzignac, chief executive of MedicAnimal.com. “It is a question of doing all that you can to keep customers on your site.”

He added that no retailer can stock all of the products it wants to, but implementing an online marketplace would allow the company without cost to expand our product range dramatically by including a large number of additional sellers.

“This gives far greater choice and competitive pricing to our customers but at the same time guarantees a secure and high-quality customer experience in keeping with the rest of the site,” explained Retzignac. “Offering an increased range of products and services is key to growing the MedicAnimal.com brand and we hope, ensuring customer loyalty.”

Major retailers back success

French software-as-a-service (SaaS) marketplace technology start-up Mirakl already counts a number of High Street names as customers in its domestic market, including Groupe Auchan and high-end department store Galeries Lafayette.

Online entertainment retailer Fnac.com has already reported impressive results since implementing Mirakl’s marketplace. Marketplace now accounts for 25% of all its online business, has boosted online profits and increased the product range from 600,000 products to 15 million, with no inventory and logistics investment.
