Allows retailers to exchange discounts for user-generated publicity across Twitter and Facebook

Allows retailers to exchange discounts for user-generated publicity across Twitter and Facebook

A new discount social marketing platform for retailers has just launched in closed beta. British-owned Snatter is aiming to revolutionise social media marketing campaigns by rewarding users for Tweets and Facebook updates of products they're about to purchase.

Snatter is a free-to-use service that allows retailers to build social media buzz about their websites and specific products, while driving up their sales. Unlike with other discounting platforms and websites, Snatter takes no affiliate commission from retailers.

The concept is simple: in exchange for a posting a Facebook or Twitter status update about a specific product or service, the user receives a discount on that specific product or service. Each update contains a link allowing their Facebook friends and Twitter followers to do the same.

Conversation starter builds awareness

A sample Snatter Tweet might read: "I Just saved 20% on PRODUCT at @RETAILER http://link via @snatteroffers-Can't wait to play with my new toy"

Grahme Cohen of Snatter said: "Snatter is a different take on social media marketing. It allows retailers to increase awareness of their brand and specific products, drive up sales through selective discounting and then be part of a virtuous circle.

"Snatter is different from other takes on social media marketing because users are only offered discounts on the products they're about to purchase and receive no payment for doing so. It's a completely transparent service. "

Rewards incentivise advocacy

Snatter updates are designed to act as conversation starters on Facebook and Twitter. Many Twitter and Facebook users already actively update their followers and friends on purchases they're making. With Snatter, they can continue to do so but also be rewarded for the buzz they are generating around a product or service.

Google and Bing now include Facebook and Twitter updates in their main search results, so Snatter messages can actively increase retailers' reach across the web.

Snatter is currently in a closed beta stage and is accepting applications from both retailers and service providers. Following a full beta launch, the developers said in the coming months an application programming interface (API) offering will allow retailers to more easily manage multiple products and campaigns by integrating with the platform with their existing e-commerce platform.
