Local payment app sponsors Birmingham City FC

By Retail Technology | Wednesday June 18 2014

Birmingham City football club has chosen a local payment app creator as its principal partner for the next two years

Birmingham City FC has just signed a two-year sponsorship deal with a Birmingham-based company that has launched a lifestyle payment app.

Zapaygo, which is now Birmingham FC’s principal partner, says it created the app to transform how people order and pay for items and celebrated its launch by signing the deal this June.

The app allows users to order and pay for food, beverage and products from participating retailers directly from their smartphone. Users can then choose to collect items directly from the counter or bar or have them delivered to their table. Orders are confirmed by text message.

The process removes the need for scanning, cash or card payment and Zapaygo has partnered with First Data for its launch. The company expects to expand the reach of the app to the home setting.

The deal will see the app’s branding adorn the club’s play and replica kit from 2014 to 2016. Blues fans will also benefit from Zapygo’s offers and competitions.

“The great thing about this product is that it’s really going to benefit not only our supporters but also our venues,” said Birmingham City’s head of commercial, Ian Dutton.
