UK retailer deploys integrated file integrity monitoring and log management software to guarantee data security

UK retailer deploys integrated file integrity monitoring and log management software to guarantee data security

M&Co., the flagship brand of Mackays Stores Limited, today announces that it has purchased Tripwire Enterprise and Tripwire Log Centre to achieve better visibility, intelligence and automation of security and compliance activities across its 287 UK-wide stores.

The integrated implementation of the two Tripwire products will ensure that M&Co. is compliant with the latest Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS) and able to identify and respond to any unauthorised changes across its network within a matter of seconds.

Compliance key to business assurance

As a UK suppliers of women's, children’s and men’s clothing, M&Co. processes thousands of transactions every month and is highly aware of the need to ensure the security of its customers’ sensitive payment card data. Billy Shaw, network manager at M&Co., explained: “Up until recently we had a dedicated resource in-house using a manual system to ensure that we remained PCI compliant.

“However, it was becoming more time consuming and more complicated to adhere to PCI standards. The implementation of Tripwire Enterprise and Tripwire Log Centre now removes this headache, providing intelligent threat control that makes it possible to achieve continuous compliance and non-stop security, without the cost and complexity associated with existing security tools.”

Shaw added: “We chose Tripwire because they are the recognised leader in the file integrity monitoring industry, and they were able to offer us an integrated solution that has a low cost of ownership. Tripwire ticks the boxes for PCI compliance and log and event management. As a result, we now have a watertight security infrastructure that allows us to adhere to PCI standards and security best practice at all times.”

Real-time intelligence to scale

Launched in January this year, the provider claimed Tripwire Log Centre is unique in the market: while traditional log management tools simply collect and store logs to meet audit requirements, they don’t provide the intelligence needed for real-time security. At the same time, existing security information and event management (SIEM) systems offer intelligence, but without the performance and speed organisations need to log billions of events a day. This means that organisations end up compromising, it said, where Tripwire Log Centre combines event and change data without compromising on intelligence, performance and scalability.

Shaw concluded: “Right from the initial implementation, which was done over the phone with a Tripwire consultant in just a matter of hours, Tripwire have been highly supportive and responsive to our needs; they understand that compliance is not just a one-off event, it’s a continual process and the solution they have provided ensures that we now have real-time visibility, intelligence and automation of security and compliance activities across all aspects of our critical IT infrastructure.”
