Sam’s Club robotises to meet online demand

By Retail Technology | Sunday January 3 2021

US retail warehouse club Sam’s Club is using robots and AI to meet a surge in ecommerce orders at its new fulfilment centre

The new operation in Southern California is dedicated to ecommerce fulfilment and robots driven by GrayMatter software are being utilised. Items are stored on the racks in cubbies or bins. Robots grab and move products to pick stations where workers take the items from the robot and pack them in boxes for shipment.

Executives from Sam’s Club say it’s an example of a goods-to-person picking system in which the robots learn continuously and reduce stress on human labor when online orders are rising sharply.
