Third of consumers find cashierless stores ‘creepy’

By Retail Technology | Thursday November 18 2021 | UPDATED 19.11.21

According to new research, almost a third of UK consumers find cashierless shopping ‘creepy’

A recent report from Marqeta found that 30% had used “Just Walk Out” shops or till-less grocery stores like Amazon Go and 37% of survey respondents  would like to in the future.

The report surveyed 2,037 UK consumers and more than a dozen of Europe’s leading payments experts.

While almost a third of consumers find till-less technology ‘creepy’, the payments experts who contributed to the report believe the convenience will still win people over, given how quickly Uber and other new technologies have been accepted as a norm.

They believe that payments will become increasingly invisible as we move to till-less modes of commerce – and could even extend to bars and restaurants in the next decade.
