Walmart associates get new AI tools

By Retail Technology | Wednesday July 2 2025 | UPDATED 01.07.25

Walmart has announced a new suite of AI tools designed to elevate the roles and experience of store associates

It is deploying AI-powered tools across its U.S. associate base — including real-time translation and task management (reducing shift planning time from 90 min to just 30) — to streamline tasks and improve service.

The tools are part of Walmart’s broader investment in its frontline workforce, which also includes recent wage increases, expanded upskilling programmes and clearer career pathways for associates.

“AI is a key enabler in improving how we work, and we believe its full potential is unlocked only when paired with the strengths of our people,” said Greg Cathey, senior vice president, Transformation & Innovation. “When you put intuitive, accessible technology into the hands of millions of associates, the impact isn’t incremental — it’s transformational.”
