Storage software enables luxury lingerie manufacturer to back up data across global network

Storage software enables luxury lingerie manufacturer to back up data across global network

La Perla, an international manufacturer of luxury lingerie headquartered in Italy, recently revealed it is using CA ARCserve Backup to protect up to three terabytes of critical data across the majority of its 50 servers located around the world.

The storage backup software gives La Perla continuous access to critical data. This safeguards the manufacturing process, while preventing disruption to the supply chain. These are core to centralised services essential for the day-to-day running of the business – from email to critical data and business intelligence based on sales figures at points of sale and intranet portals used by retailers and major suppliers.

Boosting essential data protection

“We’ve always been very cautious about data protection,” explains Mauro Ruscelli, IT infrastructure and safety manager at La Perla. “Backup is the last defence in case of disaster and, as such, it must be absolutely reliable.”

The CA Technologies solution proved to meet La Perla’s needs in terms of scalability and capacity to use native functionalities of software tools like the Lotus Domino Attachment and Object Service (DAOS), as well the backup functions of VMware.

“This is the key to fast backup,” Ruscelli added. “If we had to back up virtual machines in a traditional way, the process would require days but, since CA ARCserve Backup uses native functions in VMware, we can get a snapshot of our machines in just a few seconds and without any impact on service continuity. If needed, this snapshot is immediately available for data recovery, and the slow part of the process – recording data to the tape – can be performed offline without hurry.”
