Zeus software helps quadplay telecoms provider deliver excellent online service

Zeus software helps quadplay telecoms provider deliver excellent online service

Entertainment and communications company, Virgin Media, is working with software-based application delivery controller, Zeus Technology to give customers a better online experience.

The Zeus solution is being used to ensure over four million Virgin Media customers receive fast and available web and email services even during spikes in demand. These are part of the so-called ‘quadplay’ of digital TV, broadband and fixed and mobile services Virgin offers its customers.

Virgin Media is also using Zeus to migrate users onto a new function-rich email system, due for completion in the second quarter of 2010. The new email system is deigned to provide an easy-to-use interface with more features and storage space than before.

Software system trumps hardware options

Zeus was selected over competing hardware-based products for its flexibility, ease of deployment and its ability to maintain 100% uptime. As Zeus provides a pure software solution, it added that service levels can be scaled up or down with very little effort.

Alex Brown, senior product manager of internet products at Virgin Media, said: “Virgin Media faced a number of technical challenges that Zeus has helped us overcome. We wanted to offer customers better email and web services but at the same time ensure we can deliver them without impacting service levels or compromising security. Since we are dealing with massive volumes of traffic, reliability and performance is of paramount importance. The Zeus solution has risen to the challenge by accelerating the email migration faultlessly to deliver better online services.”
