John Lewis has chosen IT provider, PCMS to deliver a new point-of-sale (PoS) system that will support its overall strategy to deliver a seamless multichannel offering for customers

Using PCMS’ core Vision BeanStore product, John Lewis will deploy the system to 3,000 tills across all its trading formats, including all department store and hospitality operations.

In choosing Vision BeanStore, PCMS said John Lewis is investing in a proven solution that has delivered improved total cost of ownership to Tier 1 retailers across the world. The system’s centralised architecture means that it can provide real time information across the estate, in support of processes aimed at enhancing the customer experience. Vision BeanStore’s ability to integrate with other retail operations such as e-commerce and order management will be a key enabler to the multichannel selling strategy.

Proven expertise, partnership

When looking for a partner to provide its next generation EPoS system it was important for John Lewis to find a solution that incorporated a core product strategy for development alongside a strong road map, rather than a bespoke system that would restrict future growth plans.

Simon Russell, head of multichannel, John Lewis explains: “Choosing an EPoS system is not only a major investment but it’s an important part of retail strategy. Therefore, it needs to have the longevity to not only support our business needs now, but five or 10 years down the line. After thorough research of the major EPoS providers, we chose Vision BeanStore as it best reflected our selection strategy for a solution that is agile and flexible enough to meet the demands of our business and our customers now and in the future.

“Equally important, we have confidence that PCMS can provide us with the complete package in terms of an EPoS solution and delivery expertise. We know that PCMS will be a long-term strategic partner and will continue to add value with their forward-thinking and proactive approach, just as they have during their five years working with Waitrose.”

Another important benefit offered by Vision BeanStore is hardware rationalisation, with the centralised architecture removing the need for EPoS servers and back-up infrastructure at store level.

Globally, PCMS added that Vision BeanStore is currently used in 28 countries by retailers with more than 30,000 stores. PCMS is looking forward to a busy couple of years, as the software will be rolled out to a further 50,000 registers in 2010, with a further 60,000 already committed for 2011.
