High street food giant enlists NaviSite to provide a secure cloud platform for public facing website

High Street food retailer EAT has selected enterprise-class hosting, managed application, managed messaging and managed cloud service provider, NaviSite, to deliver its NaviCloud platform infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) for its new customer facing web system.

Following a period involving continuous expansion, EAT decided to launch a new customer-facing web application. An external host facility was sought to meet high availability and flexible resource demands, while providing advanced security for customer transactions.

Building on cloud-based back office

EAT has long operated on a private cloud platform, allowing its 2,000-plus employees across 120 stores to work on a secure private network. But, in order to launch the customer facing application, the hosting solution had to meet a strict set of requirements including full Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance, VMware compatibility, high availability and secure virtual private network (VPN) capabilities. All of this had to be achievable in a very short time scale.

Since the launch of the first EAT shop in 1996, EAT is now able to offer a full range of good, fresh and handmade food and drinks to customers online. With the new web application, customers can order their food to be delivered directly, Monday to Friday. The new platform also enables customers to place lunch orders on the same day as delivery, before 10am.

Simple and intuitive implementation

The Navisite IaaS-based application has now been successfully running for a few months without a glitch. Cesar Ramanauskas, EAT systems manager, commented: “Security and compliance were of upmost importance to this project, so selecting the right service provider was crucial. NaviSite was introduced to me over a year ago when I was given a live walk through of the NaviCloud AppCenter. As soon as I was ready to launch the new project the NaviSite team was my first port of call. I was impressed from the off with the customer service; I was told delivery was possible in a short time and the team went above and beyond to deliver.

“There was a one-time set-up, which took about half an hour using NaviSite’s simple and intuitive interface – and ever since I flipped the switch, I have never had to touch it again. Our system is frequently pushed to its limits with high service levels required, but there have been absolutely no problems. In short, NaviCloud just works.”
