Football Club implements YESpay Payment Service Cardholder Tokenisation

Manchester City Football Club (MCFC) has implemented a full online e-commerce payment service supporting cardholder data tokenisation by workgin with partners, YESpay, an international payments services company and Metagy.

With large volumes of orders taken via the MCFC online website and over the phone, from pre-orders for kit launches to merchandise sales, the Meta software solution from Metagy was facing a number of issues around processing payments for MCFC.

With cardholder details taken upon order, the real authorisation and settlement processing was completed when the order was picked days or, during pre-order for kit launch, even weeks later, when goods became available. MCFC found that, in some cases, card details were incorrect, expired or would not authorise. This impacted the club’s customer service workload and sales volumes as it was unable to process the payment for these orders.

Security, flexibility and compliance

“We wanted a card payment solution that could scale to handle large volumes of transactions, would allow us to verify cards when the order was placed but take payment later, as well as be PCI [Payment Card Industry] compliant for secure handling of card data,” said Michele Smith, director of Metagy.

The YESpay PCI Data Security Standard (DSS) compliant, EasyV-Wallet technology responded to the MCFC payment requirements by providing a secure ability to handle a two-part payment process. Linking it to Meta, Metagy worked with YESpay for a cardholder tokenisation system.

The payment company said its YESpay EMBOSS host returns a token validating the card details enabling Meta to authorise each card right at the time of order placement. Security concerns have been also been removed with the introduction of additional, Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode authentication and the process has become faster, with authorisation of transaction in real time to verify the card.

Tokenisation integration streamlines payments

“We embraced the MCFC opportunity to deliver the new cardholder data tokenisation payment solution. MCFC needed to cope with high-volume and secure card payment processing and the YESpay EasyV-Wallet based card payment service provided MCFC the right solution”, said Sean Young, YESpay International regional manager.

Now, when the goods are picked for shipment, the Meta system submits a payment request using the token to EMBOSS to be processed knowing that the card details have already been verified. The YESpay PCI DSS certification authorises YESpay to store credit and debit card details securely, which has helped MCFC to ensure a high level of security against fraudulent card transactions with real-time authorisation, all while also improving the customer experience. MCFC customers now no longer need to be contacted due to failed card payments at the time of processing when the orders are being picked.
