Barclaycard helps to make festival queues a thing of the past with its “Pay and Wave” technology

Barclaycard helps to make festival queues a thing of the past with its “Pay and Wave” technology

Revellers at the Wireless Festival will spend an estimated hour less queuing over the course of the two days compared with previous years with the introduction of new technology at the Hyde Park site, according to Barclaycard.

As the main sponsor for the biggest music festival in London, the card issuer has introduced over 50 contactless-enabled payment terminals that it claims will cut the time spent patiently queuing for food or drinks.

Speeding high-volume micropayments

The contactless technology allows customers to make purchases of £15 and under, without the need to enter a PIN or enter their card into a payment terminal. Once the card has been held over the contactless terminal, the transaction uses a secure network to automatically add the purchase to the customer’s credit card bill or debit it from their current account.

Barclaycard added that users of contactless terminals would also be eligible for the fast-track queues at a selection of retailers across the festival including bars, food areas and various merchandise stalls. Having this payment option means people can spend more time seeing their favourite bands, rather than waiting in a long line for food and drink.
