Muji implements self-checkout

By Retail Technology | Wednesday October 21 2020 | UPDATED 22.10.20

Japanese household and consumer goods retailer Muji is rolling out a mobile self-checkout solution across all their UK stores

Having chosen MishiPay’s “Scan, Pay, Go” technology, customers are now able to simply scan items in a Muji store using their smartphone and pay with a variety of convenient digital payment methods, leaving them free to exit the store. This eliminates the need to wait in line or have contact with staff or checkout terminals.

The introduction of MishiPay’s mobile self-checkout is Muji’s latest step to create a market-leading level of simplicity and convenience for customers in their stores.

Users can use MishiPay to check prices, view additional item information and access real-time promotion information. The technology also makes it easy for customers and staff to adhere to social distancing measures as it utilises the smartphone devices customers already carry as a contactless payment method.

Native app

Shoppers are also not required to download the app in order to use the solution as MishiPay builds their technology on web in addition to native app, making it easy for users to access the benefits.

David Brice, MD at MUJI UK, said: “The in-store experience for customers has always been an important part of the MUJI brand, and MishiPay’s mobile self-checkout solution has allowed us to create a new level of convenience. Not only are customers enjoying being able to check out without queuing or touching hardware, but our staff are also more free to help, advise and add real value to the shopping experience rather than processing payments.”
