JUST EAT acquires Meal2Go EPoS
Birmingham online takeaway service provides innovative electronic point of sale technology to strengthen takeaway restaurant sector offering
UK online takeaway service JUST EAT has announced its acquisition of Birmingham-based online takeaway service Meal2Go.
Meal2Go’s electronic point-of-sale (EPoS) technology, specifically designed for the restaurant industry, will further enhance the service JUST EAT provides its 20,000+ UK takeaway restaurant partners.
The service will use Meal2Go’s tailor-made EPoS system to now offer its takeaway restaurant partners a central system for managing orders taken whether online, from ‘walk-in’ custom or over the phone. This will enable owners to better organise their day-to-day operations and determine business priorities by providing a better view of their customers’ ordering habits, which they can use to help improve customer service and marketing efficiency.
Purpose-built EPoS ordering network
Meal2Go was the first online food ordering EPoS network in the independent restaurant sector in the UK. It has over 1,100 takeaway restaurants signed up to its services nationwide – the majority based in the Birmingham region. Customers use the Meal2Go website to order takeaways from local restaurants. The company was founded in 2006 by Marcus Rezaei and has since been run by Rezaei and Ali Taranssari, who will both remain with the business.
Graham Corfield, UK managing director of JUST EAT, said that the deal would enable the company to provide a better service to its takeaway restaurant partners.
Innovating to drive market growth
“We know there is huge demand among takeaway businesses for great value, high quality EPoS technology, which we will now be able to offer,” he stated. “This move is part of our wider strategy to make the bolt-on acquisitions and partnership deals that will ensure we continue to innovate and drive further significant growth for our takeaway restaurant partners.”
Marcus Rezaei, Meal2Go founder and chief executive, added: “We’re very excited to be working with the leading player in the online takeaway sector. We’ve spent a lot of time and effort developing our EPoS system to be the best in the business. It is great to know that many more takeaway restaurants will be able to benefit from this as part of the wider JUST EAT offering.”
